Here at The Broken Arrow, we have been raising purebred, percentage and Simmental influenced livestock since 1985, of which approximately 90% of our cow herd is from A.I breeding, many several generation. Our crossbreeding program also includes from purebred crossbreeding from Black Angus, Red Angus, Polled Hereford, and Gelbvieh bloodlines. We have been raising commercial cross-bred cattle of which most are through our A.I. program since 1981.

Our Simmental influenced cow herd currently has bloodlines from high performance A.I. bulls. A favorite is CSR MR Big-N-Long, who was a long time 5-star trait leader in the breed. Black Mick, who is well known for his black replacement quality sons and daughters. SV Red Charlie and Body Builder, for feedlot steers and replacement females. Also, ER Americana for feedlot performance.

Our Females are rigidly culled annually for performance, milking ability, fertility and personality. We keep record of all our A.I bulls and females performance using C.H.A.P.S. (Cow Herd Appraisal Performance Software).

Since we do our A.I. calving in the late winter, and in the barn. On personality we like to see our stock cows a little bit "human tolerant" during calving. However, we also like to see our cows giving our hard working Red Border Collie stock dogs a little bit of a hard time, as we don't want our cows to ever loose the natural instinct to protect themselves and their calves from predators.

We raise one or two bulls annually for clean up breeding, the remaining become steers for commercial feedlot.

We have a limited number of open commercial Simmental cross heifers available annually in December-January, from A.I. breeding. Available by private treaty only.

We also occasionally offer pups for sale from our hard working pair of Red Border Collies. Both are registered with the American Border Collie Assoc. Shown in photo is Chip, our female. A natural heeler, during shots, pour-ons and weigh times, she keeps the stock moving into the alley for us. Check out our Border Collie website.
